10 Movie Villains That Upstaged Other Villains
2. Darth Vader - Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
It could be argued that Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is the best Star Wars movie produced since 1983. Though essentially existing based on one line of dialogue from Episode IV: A New Hope, and to fill in something of a plot hole with regards to the Death Star's glaring weakness, the film was still arguably better than anything from either the prequel or sequel trilogy.
The main villain, Ben Mendelsohn's Orson Krennic, put Galen Erso (Mads Mikkelsen) to work on the Death Star, and oversaw its whole production. He was portrayed at the film's beginning as a ruthless man not to be messed with, but his standing in the Empire only became lesser and lesser as the story went on. Much like Ronan in Guardians of the Galaxy, he was undermined consistently.
Krennic was first overshadowed by Grand Moff Tarkin (Guy Henry), who took the Death Star project away from him, and then ultimately by Darth Vader right at the very end. In fairness, Vader's arrival stole the spotlight from every single other aspect of the movie, not just Krennic.
The first thing that comes to mind when thinking of Rogue One is never the story or the sacrifices made by the heroes, and it's certainly never Orson Krennic. Without fail it's Darth Vader's awe-inspiring emergence from the darkness into a corridor to put his full power on display. It's an iconic moment in Star Wars history, and no other villain could possibly ever compete against such a badass cameo.
