10 Movie Villains Who Got Disappointingly Lame Deaths
7. George Harvey - The Lovely Bones
Though certainly not a great movie, The Lovely Bones does nevertheless make the audience desperately root for its serial killer antagonist, George Harvey (Stanley Tucci), to suffer a brutal comeuppance for his crimes.
While Harvey is ultimately never caught, he receives his own form of cosmic punishment in the film's final moments, when after attempting to abduct his next intended victim, an icicle falls and hits his shoulder, causing him to fall backwards off a steep cliff to his death.
In theory there's a bittersweet appeal to seeing Harvey die such an uneventful death without ever being caught, but Peter Jackson's clunky, cartoonish execution ultimately undermines the entire point of Harvey's intentionally unremarkable death in the novel.
Apparently due to test audiences complaining that Harvey's death wasn't graphic enough, Jackson went back and retooled it to be more violent, complete with an unconvincing CGI model of Stanley Tucci's body smacking the cliff face and tree branches before finally landing near the bottom.
Simply having Harvey falls backwards off the cliff like the most ordinary, banal accident would've been considerably more effective, but turning it into a basically acrobatic action beat basically rendered it comical - the exact opposite of the intent.
