Indiana Jones and the last Crusade centred around Indy being tricked by multimillionaire Walter Donovan into helping him and Doctor Elsa Schneider find the fabled Holy Grail, under the guise of rescuing Indy’s father, who had been kidnapped by Nazis while on the same quest.

The Holy Grail supposedly gave gift of eternal life to whomever drank from it and was hidden in a tomb in Venice. It was said to be guarded by a seven hundred year old knight and hidden among many other imitation grails, which would kill anyone who drank from them.

Walter wanted the Holy Grail so he could become immortal and have eternal youth. However, in an act of betrayal, Elsa selects a fake grail of gold and emeralds for him to drink from and he dies by ageing rapidly to death.

This death is made even more ironic by the fact that earlier in the movie, Donovan had told Indy not to trust anybody, and then chose to trust Schneider even after she had previously said the grail wouldn’t be made of gold.
