10 Movies That Abused Animal Rights During Production
10. Conan The Barbarian Trapped Horses In Trip Wires
Responsible for killing up to a dozen horses, this Arnie star-vehicle was completely barbaric behind the screen as well as on it. Released back in 1982, Conan the Barbarian holds an infamous place in movie history for its abuse of horses during production, wrapping the animals' legs with trip wires and even forcing one particular horse to crash into pointed stakes. The AHA furiously banged the film with the "UNACCEPTABLE" stamp, and raged outside cinemas when the production was finally released, sending thousands of complaint letters in an effort to encourage potential viewers to boycott it. This was hardly a turn up for the books, given that the filmmakers had purposely and regularly swept horses' legs from underneath them to send the animals crashing to the floor for 'good' effects. Not exactly tasteful production tactics. As it turned out, the film produced a sequel - Conan the Destroyer - that had apparently learnt nothing from its predecessor. This film also invited enormous criticism from all corners for its abuse of both horses and camels. It goes without saying that if you're an animal lover - the Conan series certainly isn't for you.
