10 Movies Critics & Audiences Couldn't Agree On

If recent reports are to be believed, Sony's Spider-Man Universe is officially dying with yet another box office flop, this time in the form of Kraven the Hunter. That Aaron Taylor-Johnson-led outing is simply the latest chapter in a franchise that struggled from the start.

Venom released back in 2018, arguably before the set-in of the perceived superhero fatigue, and was actually incredibly successful at the box office. The film pulled in an impressive $856 million, more than enough to greenlight a sequel despite the poor critical reception.

At just 30% on the Tomatometer, Sony's first foray into its own Marvel Universe simply couldn't keep up with the MCU movies of the time. However, Tom Hardy carried Venom to a much more pleasing 80% score with audiences.

It's hard to say just how much impact Hardy had on the entire Venom trilogy, but it's even harder to imagine anyone else even coming close to how he portrayed the role. Playing both Eddie Brock and Venom, the chemistry and bromance between the two made not just Venom but both sequels enjoyable for many who paid to see them, even if critically there wasn't much more to them than that.
