10 Movies Everyone Thought Were Sequels (But Weren't)
9. Cradle 2 the Grave
Put the number "2" in a movie's title and you're just asking people to assume it's a sequel, and then leave them thoroughly confused if it isn't.
Case in point, the very same year that 2 Fast 2 Furious popularised this title format, the DMX action-thriller Cradle 2 the Grave was also released.
While you might've figured out that there probably wasn't a film called Cradle 1 the Grave, many fans of the rapper and action schlock in general assumed it was a follow-up to one of DMX's prior action flicks, 2000's Romeo Must Die or 2001's Exit Wounds, both of which were directed by Andrzej Bartkowiak and shared many of the same cast members.
But Cradle 2 the Grave was a spiritual successor at best, and in pure narrative terms its very own beast.
This is far from the only film to mistake itself for a sequel by including a number in its title, though - there's 1997's family comedy Jungle 2 Jungle, and if we go even further back, 1993's crime drama Menace II Society.
