10 Movies From 2018 That Were Completely Pointless

1. Solo: A Star Wars Story

One of the major questions surrounding Solo: A Star Wars Story was whether Han even needed an origin story in the first place. After all, he first appeared on our screens over 40 years ago as a fully-formed, fleshed-out character that quickly became an icon of popular culture.

After the reception to the latest spin-off set in a galaxy far, far away, it turns out that the answer was a resounding no.

Even before the controversy surrounding the firing of Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, many people were wondering why the project existed in the first place; with the huge sandbox of Star Wars to set the anthology movies in and the almost unlimited potential for new stories, why go back to the well and show us characters we've already seen plenty of times before?

Solo was an entirely serviceable blockbuster, albeit one that brought absolutely nothing new to the franchise in the way that Rogue One or The Last Jedi did. It doesn't suck, it isn't fantastic, it is a perfectly okay entry into the long-running saga and nothing more.

The general lack of enthusiasm surrounding Solo saw it become the first live-action Star Wars movie to lose money at the box office. In fact, it is the lowest-grossing installment ever, a title previously held by the $475.1m haul of Return of the Jedi, a movie that came out thirty-five years ago.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
