10 Movies Interrupted By Horrific Violence In The Cinema

9. My Bloody Valentine

If there's one genre of movie that gets accused of influencing copycat killers and violent behaviour more than any other, it's the horror slasher movie. With its faceless killers and gleeful portrayal of gory violence it's easy to argue a case for the role it plays in desensitizing society. That aside, the cause of the incident of violence which occurred shortly after a screening of My Bloody Valentine (in 3D) probably had more to do with the nature of annoying, self-entitled teenagers than it did with the effects of violent movies on people. Once the credits had rolled in a New York theatre a 16-year-old boy was repeatedly asked by a security guard to leave but refused to do so, preferring to wait inside for his ride home regardless of the wishes of the staff. The security guard in question, 24-year-old Richard Singh, soon tired of the boy's uncooperative nature and took out a knife, stabbing him in the stomach. Singh was charged with second degree assault, while the boy received six stitches for his wound.
