10 Movies Not Screened For Critics (That Were Actually Good)
1. Psycho
This one gets in on something of a technicality. It wasn't shown to critics at any screenings beforehand but not because Hitchcock wanted to disown the movie or thought it would get panned. Instead, like The Force Awakens, it was held back so the twist at the end wouldn't be spoiled for viewers before it hit the big screen. Hitchcock even bought up thousands of copies of the novel on which it was based for the same reason!
A smart move, even if that twist is now one of the most widely known and copied moments in cinema. Psycho electrified audiences on its release and it's influence on just about everything that came after is undeniable. With ground-breaking cinematography, outstanding performances and scares which have stood the test of time, it's a solid gold classic.
