10 Movies One Mistake Away From Being Masterpieces
5. How To Train Your Dragon
The Almost Great Movie: It looked dumb and the trailer showcased disappointing animation, but when it hit, How To Train Your Dragon impressed. Creating a believable and complete world, it stood out from the animated crowd and for the first time in a long while people are excited for a Dreamworks franchise. But why was this film parents and children loved not regarded as highly as some of its counterparts?
The Big Mistake: Dreamworks made it.
How To Train Your Dragon was the point when Dreamworks realised fart jokes and funny celebrity voices may get money, but that doesn't mean their previous systemic issues just went away. Even with Pixar's recent falters (thankfully behind them after Inside Out), Dreamworks' best is a cut below what Lasseter and co. produce, and while some of that is simply down to different methods, a big part of it is the company's hallmarks; cliches it's still yet to fully shake that drag the film down. And sadly these gags rear their head in Dragon.
