10 Movies Ruined By Impossible Expectations

9. Spider-Man 3

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SPN1BvR02Xo What We Expected: After two excellent Spider-Man films, the expectation was that Spider-Man 3 would be the trilogy-capping crescendo, introducing the fan favourite villain Venom and also bringing The Sandman along for the ride. It would bring this chapter of Peter Parker's life to a close and probably set up for an inevitable fourth film and new trilogy. What We Got: An intermittently thrilling film that could never even dream of living up to its own expectations. Part of the problem is that there was just too much going on, while the corny dance scenes and "Emo Peter" interludes just padded a film that was already bursting at the seams. Much criticism was drawn towards the depiction of Venom as well as the ret-conning of some plot strands (namely that The Sandman ended up having killed Uncle Ben), and the overly sympathetic portrayal of The Sandman. It had its fun moments, but it suffered hugely from being touted as the biggest and best Marvel film yet.
