A third movie in the successful franchise has been in talks for years. Pretty much since the early 90's until recent days, rumors about the film have been spreading out; who will return? What the plot will be? Will it pass on the torch to a new generation? If so, which actors will be continuing on with the story? Will Reitman return to direct the film?
So, What Happened? Apparently this film has come up with a lot of problems. First some time Dan Aykroyd was the only actor that was interested in returning to the film, then the script had some problems (although a variation of it was used for the videogame), and Reitman said that it would not be directing it although later stated that he might return. Same thing with Bill Murray; the release date has been changed at least 4 times in recent years, and a very long etcetera. The most recent news of the project came last year, when it was confirmed that Ethan Cohen would be writing the script. Aykroyd said that "It's got to be perfect. That's the whole thing. There's no point in doing it unless it's perfect. So that's what we're up to now. The script was approved by Sony, and with the whole cast returning (Bill Murray being the only exception), they will pass on the torch to a new generation, one of the major points of the film. It was stated that it might begin filming this summer, however that seems quite unlikely.
