10 Movies That Accidentally Made You Love The Villains

9. Hocus Pocus - The Witches

Hocus Pocus
Disney

Hocus Pocus was a box office disaster, having reportedly lost nearly seventeen million dollars during its theatrical release. Luckily for Disney, the film has become a cult classic in its later years and a Disney+ sequel is in the pipeline, much to the chagrin of fans.

Its lack of success shouldn't really be that much of a surprise: It was, after all, a much darker story than most Disney films at the time, but as a PG film it was still marketed towards children and families. The irony being that this film is a much more accurate representation of the fairy tales that Disney usually adapt.

The film centres around the three witches, accidentally resurrected by a young boy who was trying to prove that witches are real. This naturally backfires as they discover that the witches must devour the children in order to survive. The children do their best to escape and survive before the witches meet their end at sunrise.

The story is mostly garbage, but no one is watching the film for that. The true attraction are the witches. The chemistry between the three actresses is fantastic to watch and you can tell they enjoyed every second of filming. The outfits are pure over the top weirdness and the acting is equally as wacky.

The second half of the film is a comedy gold mine, as the witches are constantly horrified by modern inventions and children dressed up for Halloween. The hilarious trio have kept fans coming back every year to watch this Halloween staple.
