10 Movies That Almost Killed Actors' Careers

7. Tooth Fairy - Dwayne Johnson

Before he was the biggest movie star on the planet, Dwayne Johnson was another wrestler trying to crack Hollywood. He was met with some scorn at first, a musclebound fake fighter who thought he could transition into the big leagues, but with the likes of Walking Tall and Doom, he quickly silenced critics. OK, these weren’t great films, but Johnson clearly had something.

Then came 2010’s Tooth Fairy. The first of his films that you could see Hulk Hogan flailing in a few decades earlier, this was a major step back for Johnson.

The movie had one joke - Dwayne Johnson, a large, muscular man, was dressed up like a cute little fairy - and the actor was adrift in the part. Wrestling fans will know that Johnson has exceptional comic timing, which the dreadful material didn’t utilise.

This was a wake up call for Johnson, who has picked his roles far more carefully after this debacle. The Fast and Furious franchise soon came calling, and his action bonafides were reasserted.

When he has returned to comedy, he has (somewhat cynically) only picked projects that make him look cool. There are few actors around with better business sense.
