10 Movies That Changed Your Mind About Actors You Hated

1. (Everything Since) The Lincoln Lawyer - Matthew McConaughey

Well, here we are at the very top of the list, and who else but Matthew McConaughey, given his recent career resurgence (which is, quite frankly, amazing ), deserves to be at number one? To be entirely honest, Matthew McConaughey has done something close to impossible: mid-way through his career, he's re-branded himself entirely - and on purpose, too. Sick and tired of appearing in only critical failures and having people question his acting abilities, the actor set out to "start again." And boy did he deliver on those aims. Over and over again. So McConaughey's rise to the top can probably be traced back to his role in The Lincoln Lawyer. It's not his best or greatest performance ever, but there's an added layer of depth inherent to that turn than in 20 or so movies that preceded it. After that, then, there were masterful appearances in Bernie, Magic Mike (where he went completely against type and stunned us all), Mud, Killer Joe, The Paperboy, Dallas Buyers Club (which could win him an Oscar come this year's ceremony, don't you know?), The Wolf of Wall Street. That's all since 2001. Chances are that before he appeared in all of those roles, then, you thought nothing of Matthew McConaughey. And we're pretty sure that - quite honestly - nobody did. In just over 3 years, this guy - once thought to be the hacky lead actor of countless bland rom coms - has officially changed our opinion of him, one awesome performance after another. Better yet, the McConaughey train still doesn't seem to be slowing down (he was also cast in the lead role for Christopher Nolan's upcoming sci-fi flick, Interstellar, and will star in HBO's series True Detectives, which aired earlier this week).
