10 Movies That Completely Switched Genre Halfway Through

Sunshine remains one of Danny Boyle's most divisive movies, and bombed at the box office for good measure after earning just $32m worldwide, but we should have known better than to expect a straightforward sci-fi with the genre-hopping Boyle at the helm and Alex Garland on scripting duties.

A psychological and existential space-set story to begin with, as the crew of the ship begins to unravel it becomes clear that something sinister is afoot, but it would be safe to assume that not a lot of people were expecting Sunshine to reveal itself a slasher movie, with a murderous and skinless Mark Strong picking them off one by one.

Splitting opinion right down the middle, some people thought it ruined the movie and others thought it was a welcome change of pace after the exposition-heavy first half, but one thing everybody agreed on was that they never saw it coming.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
