10 Movies That Could Be The Major Surprise Hits Of 2018

9. A Quiet Place

A Quiet Place Emily Blunt
Paramount

The Movie: Directed by John Krasinski and starring him and Emily Blunt, A Quiet Place follows a family of four who are forced to live in silence. If they make a noise, they risk alerting a group of creatures - creatures who hunt by sound - to their presence.

Why It Could Be A Hit: High-concept horror-thrillers have proven big moneymakers in recent years (Lights Out, Get Out, Happy Death Day), and A Quiet Place looks like it should entertain a similar crowd.

The premise alone sounds intriguing - it's the type of movie you can describe in a handful of words and convince someone to watch. There's also been a lot of speculation that A Quiet Place may be a secret Cloverfield movie, and though that probably isn't true, it's only heightening interest around the film.

Plus, at the time of writing, the movie is sat at 100 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, with an average rating of 8.9/10 and a total of 15 fresh reviews. That score will certainly fall in the coming weeks, but initial buzz for the movie is off the charts, and if it can ride that wave into its early April release, it could be a surprise box-office juggernaut.
