10 Movies That Couldn't Wait To Spoil The Ending

6. Split's Posters Cleverly Implied A Shared Universe

The Ending

The shocking final twist that, in fact, the movie's events take place within the Unbreakable universe, as made clear by a fleeting closing cameo from that film's super-powered protagonist, David Dunn (Bruce Willis).

How It Was Spoiled

Unlike most of the movies on this list, M. Night Shyamalan's thriller hit gave away its big reveal in an exceedingly subtle and clever way.

The posters for Split featured a cracked glass motif which, at first glance, simply seemed to reflect Kevin Wendell Crumb's (James McAcoy) own fractured personality.

But as fans eventually noticed, the glass cracks line up perfectly with the similar cracks on Unbreakable's main poster, implying a commonality between the two, and quite ingeniously nodding towards their shared universe.

Given how brilliantly effective Split's final "gotcha!" was, you can imagine how eager Shyamalan was to share it with the world, and this was a terrifically clever way to do it while avoiding something stupid like, say, slapping Bruce Willis' name on the poster.
