10 Movies That Felt Instantly Out Of Date
4. Mission: Impossible II
Though every other entry into the Mission: Impossible franchise has aged incredibly well by clinging true to a similar storytelling formula, aesthetic, and overall tone, Mission: Impossible II stuck out like a sore thumb from the second it was released.
The John Woo-directed sequel is in many respects the quintessential early 2000s film - awash in post-Matrix slow-motion action, while rocking a theme tune from Limp Bizkit and additional musical contributions from Napster-era Metallica.
It's the only film in the series to toss Ethan Hunt on a motorcycle with a black leather jacket and sunglasses to match, Terminator-style, and yet this is only the seventh or eighth-goofiest affectation in the whole wonderfully bonkers movie.
Upon release, Mission: Impossible II already felt like a collective fever dream of an experience; a typically cartoonish '90s John Woo movie given a gloriously trashy early aughts update. It's the "worst" Mission: Impossible movie for sure, but arguably also the most distinctive.
