10 Movies That Gave Just The Right Amount Of Backstory
1. John Wick
John Wick is definitely the most surprising to hold such a satisfying backstory. It’s a no holds barred soon to be quadrilogy based around John Wick, a retired hitman who just wanted to grieve the death of his wife in peace. That's all the setup we need.
As the story progresses, we see the characters of the world speak of John Wick, or Baba Yaga. He’s a monster feared by everyone in the assassin world.
The build up of John as this mythical, legendary killer isn’t the end of it, though, it’s actually just the beginning. We’re shown John has a lighter side, enjoying time with the dog his late wife left him. Long story short, the dog is murdered and boom, John Wick is back.
Now we’ve got three films filled to the brim with the best action choreography you’ve ever seen, not to mention it’s from the great Keanu Reeves. Even then, we’re introduced to The Continental, a hotel and safe haven for mercenaries of John’s kind. It has a special set of rules, a currency and venues all around the world.
Is this currency simply billed as a coin or a one-off favour? Are the many armour tailors and gunsmiths in collaboration with The Continental? And will John ever get over his dog?
