10 Movies That Had MASSIVE Tomatometer Drops
2. Pet Sematary
Initial Score: 91%
Final Score: 58% (33% drop)
2019's Pet Sematary seemed set to be a major improvement over the divisive 1989 Stephen King adaptation, with early reviews from its SXSW premiere netting it a high 91% approval rating, complete with the pithy consensus, "Sometimes remade is better."
But by the time the non-festival crowd had set their eyes upon it and penned their reviews, the score had dropped 33% to a decidedly less impressive - and decidedly more Rotten - 58%, with the consensus rewritten as, "Pet Sematary takes its source material in a few different directions, but this remake feels like an exhuming almost as often as it does a revival."
Given that the remake's final score wasn't far off the '89 movie's 51% Tomatometer, the conversation around the movie changed drastically between the time of that initial review drop and when general audiences were able to see it for themselves.
