9. JFK
Oliver Stone's JFK supports the conspiracy theory that U.S. President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in a plot orchestrated by both the FBI and the CIA, likely to try and prevent him from pulling out of Vietnam. Simply, you know what you're getting with an Oliver Stone film - the guy is an extremist left-winger who loves to stir the pot, and though he often veers into excess, this is one of his more measured and entertaining crackpot efforts. Sure, some people might believe the central theory, but to most people with a functioning cerebrum, it's nothing but bunk; extremely enjoyable cinematic conjecture and little else. Historians generally assert that the film is fantasy, and some critics more aggressively offended by Stone's film - accusing it of being in poor taste - have noted several aspects of the plot that the director fabricated completely. Stone suggests that a conspirator openly admitted to taking part in the conspiracy, when in reality, many argue that the man did the opposite, protesting his innocence and even offering to take a lie detector test to prove it. Though Gerald Ford and David Belin - two key members of the committee tasked with investigation JFK's demise - assert the film to be spitting on the man's memory, it's hard to argue with the film's value as a compelling mystery, as long as you don't take it too seriously.
