10 Movies That Instantly Told You They Were Garbage

7. Home Sweet Home Alone

Resident Evil Final Chapter
Disney

Compare the rancid opening of the recent sixth entry into the Home Alone franchise, Home Sweet Home Alone, with the terrific first scene of the 1990 original.

The 1990 film kicks off with a memorable, eye-popping title sequence set to John Williams' iconic, Oscar-nominated score and then immediately throws us into the chaos of the McCallister household, where we're introduced to all the focal family members in an organic yet efficient way.

It has the audience on the hook from the jump, which couldn't be more polar opposite of the recent sequel.

Between the woefully cheap CGI opening titles, generally bland, TV-esque camerawork, and thoroughly cringe-worthy introduction to the new leads, it is a setup where everything falls flat and basically nothing works.

It lets you know as soon as possible that you're in for a soulless facsimile of a well-minted holiday classic, minus the charm, mirth, and general interest of what came before.
