Finally, one of the most innovative movies of this century so far, Avatar. James Cameron's movie was incredibly successful, becoming the highest-grossed movie of all time, until the release of Avengers: Endgame.

Over a decade later, Avatar is still the standout 3D film that brings its world to life. The concept of 3D technology being used in movies was not a new concept, with films such as Spy Kids 3D released before Avatar. However, the advancements were unbelievable, glasses were no longer the flimsy red and blue cut-outs, the technology used allowed more practical glasses which didn't provide headaches.

Cameron was known to invent new ground-breaking technology for this movie. One invention was the virtual camera, which allowed movement through 3D terrain. This allowed Cameron to complete his vision for the movie to have the visuals of an immersive video game. These effects certainly achieved that as audiences felt surrounded by the world of Pandora throughout the movie, which was stunning in a 3D experience.

Another invention Cameron made was an improved technique of motion capture. This technology focused on the capture of facial expressions. Skull caps were worn by the actors, with a small camera attached, directed at the actor's face. This allowed the technology to capture all facial expressions, meaning the characters became even more lifelike with acting performances much more noticeable throughout the movie.
