10 Movies That Made No Sense If You Watched Them In Other Countries

6. The Entire Nazi Subplot Was Removed In Germany - Bedknobs & Broomsticks

The classic 1971 musical fantasy film Bedknobs and Broomsticks takes place during The Blitz of World War II, when Germany launched a relentless bombing campaign against Britain.

Though the war-time context is only a piece of the movie's puzzle, the Nazis do have a prominent villainous role, especially later in the film.

And yet, for the film's German release, the Nazi element was removed entirely through both extensive cutting and re-dubbing of dialogue.

Absurdly the German release clocked in at just 89 minutes, cutting 29 minutes away from the theatrical version elsewhere, and through dubbing the Nazis were instead only referred to as "the enemy."

This is of course a head-smackingly inane feat of censorship for a movie very clearly set during World War II and very obviously featuring Nazis.

At this point, you're really better off just not releasing the film at all if you're that sensitive about the country's own troubling past. Embarassing.
