10 Movies That Made No Sense If You Watched Them In Other Countries

2. Every Single Sex Scene Was Cut For Vietnam - Fifty Shades Of Grey

Literally the entire point of the Fifty Shades of Grey movies is to give demure cinemagoers the freedom to enjoy glossy on-screen sex scenes in the socially acceptable format of a Proper Hollywood Movie.

Like all three films in the series, the original simply wouldn't exist were it not for the sex scenes - blandly tame though they ultimately are - because as both storytelling and character study, it's absolutely execrable.

Bizarre that it is, then, that when Fifty Shades of Grey was being certified for release in Vietnam, the decision was made to cut every single sex scene.

Despite the film being heavily promoted in the country and receiving a 16+ rating, cinemagoers who attended the film on Valentine's Day weekend 2015 were shocked to discover that the expected scenes were nowhere to be seen.

20 minutes worth of sex scenes were removed all in all, with only a few kisses actually being left in the Vietnam cut.

The single cut that caused the most frustration and confusion among audiences was reportedly the ending, where Ana (Dakota Johnson) decides to break up with Christian (Jamie Dornan) after he whips her with a belt.

The whipping scene is cut in its entirety, and so Ana's decision to leave makes no sense whatsoever. For a movie where sex and BDSM in particular are the whole appeal, you may as well just not release the movie at all rather than cut these scenes.

Fittingly once word got out about the butchery, the film tanked at the Vietnamese box office.
