10 Movies That Made Subtle Retcons They Hoped You Wouldn't Notice

When Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) made her DCEU debut in Batman v Superman, she very clearly stated that she walked away from mankind 100 years prior, which seemed to dovetail perfectly into the events of her solo movie and the tragic death of Steve Trevor (Chris Pine).

But of course, Wonder Woman 1984 completely contradicted this, showing Diana actively working as a superhero some 30-something years before the events of Batman v Superman.

Basically, Patty Jenkins and co. realised they'd been written into a corner with the 100-year self-exile spiel and so decided to quietly retcon it.

Wonder Woman 1984's junior novelisation attempted to explain it away as Diana refusing to invest herself emotionally in any other relationships after Steve's death, but it's an incredibly clumsy, unconvincing effort all things considered.

Though this should be a major retcon on paper, it was basically given a pass by general audiences considering how few people ever actually bothered to watch the colossally disappointing Batman v Superman more than once.
