10 Movies That Made Things Complicated To Hide Their Flaws

There are lots of people who will tell you that Primer is one of the most intelligent, challenging movies ever made. One of the people who would proclaim that most loudly of all would probably be Shaun Carruth, who directed, produced and starred in it.

The great genius of Primer is manifold, but it all boils down to the brilliance of turning a movie made for just $7000, which took two years of post-production to complete, into a genuine cult classic by making it almost impossible to understand. Carruth has admitted that he sought to make it confusing in order to mimic the experience and mental condition of his lead characters, but it also covers the fact that the film was obviously cheaply made.

In the absence of gloss, we have a genuine invitation to debate the meaning of the film and to seek greater meaning than the surface level, which more than distracts from any shortcomings that might be a product of its low cost. And while it might not be for everyone, you really have to admire that.
