10 Movies That Made Things Complicated To Hide Their Flaws

We can probably thank Danny Ocean for how complex the plot of Now You See Me is. The magic/crime mash-up film owes a lot to the Oceans movies, in that it's glossy, obsessed with being stylish over its own substance and overly-reliant on a big "VOILA!" reveal that renders almost everything else we've watched redundant. Or that's clearly the objective, anyway.

The problem for Now You See Me is that following the usual magic trick formula is all well and good but stuffing in way too much empty explanation that doesn't really solve anything is no way to build to the big pay-off. It just leaves you feeling cheated. Even the shot choices and editing style are designed to be complicated in order to act as misdirection - and while that obviously helps the twist ending, it mostly just ends up feeling like a means to hide the fact that the script is poor, the plot jumbled to the point of naivety and the heart of the matter a little wanting.

And if you thought the first one was needlessly complicated for the sake of "cleverness," you should see the sequel!
