Christopher Nolan bags the top spot for his landmark sci-fi thriller Inception, which definitively proved that blockbusters can be big AND clever. The story follows Dom Cobb, a thief who can enter the dreams of others and steal information that he sells to the highest bidder. For his final mission, Cobb recruits a team of experts to work alongside, but inevitably, things start going wrong and throws all their lives into danger. The concept of entering dreams is not particularly new; many fans have drawn comparisons between Inception and the anime Paprika which made it to number 3 on the list. However, any shared parallels between the two films end with that basic premise. Inception approaches the idea of dreaming in a different way, following the extractor team as they delve through layer upon layer of their targets dreams, fighting off subconscious projections the further they go. Keeping track of which plane of reality is which could be enough to give anyone a headache and that's before we even arrive at THAT ending. Is Cobb still dreaming or has he finally reunited with his family? Damn you spinning top! We may never know. For those of you who kept their tenuous grip on reality, remember to comment below and share your views. I'm off to go buy a spinning top now, just in case...
