10 Movies That Made You Most Question Your Own Reality

7. Total Recall (1990)

Paul Verhoeven's classic sci-fi is based on a short story by Philip K. Dick, the same author who wrote the original novel Blade Runner was derived from. That guy must have been seriously paranoid, as Total Recall also explores the concept of implanted memories, but on a much larger scale. Arnold Schwarzenegger stars as Douglas Quaid, a worker on Earth who dreams about another life on Mars. To explore this further, Quaid decides to visit the company Rekall and have a memory implanted of a trip to Mars where he can pretend to be a secret agent. The procedure back fires though and before the memory can be implanted, the company send him home. On the way, Quaid is attacked by people he thought were his friends and nothing turns out to be what it seems. Did Quaid finally just discover the truth or is he still living out a false memory implanted by the Rekall company? If you wake up one day and suddenly find out you're kick ass at fighting, odds are you're probably stuck in a fake memory. I'm still hoping my memory of watching the 2012 remake starring Colin Farrell was implanted by Columbia Pictures. I don't want to live in a world where such a thing exists.
