And finally, who could've ever expected a Mike Judge comedy to make everyone rush to watch one of the more maligned Superman movies?

Cult classic comedy Office Space revolves around a trio of downtrodden office workers who, facing redundancy at their soulless jobs, decide to rip their company off by taking fractions of remaindered cents from transactions and funnelling them into a bank account.

The scheme's mastermind is office drone Michael Bolton (David Herman), and when his co-worker Pete (Ron Livingston) mentions that it all sounds very familiar, Michael hilariously explains that he borrowed the idea from Superman III, calling the ploy "pretty brilliant."

And like that, many who never would've given Superman III a second look, especially with how poorly reviewed it was compared to its predecessors, couldn't help themselves but give it a shot.

It's still a bad movie, but it's nevertheless fun to see where Office Space's zany heist plot had its origins. 

That it happened to be a superhero sequel that's faded into fair obscurity over the years just makes the gag that much funnier.
