10 Movies That Pissed Audiences Off In The Final Scene
7. Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald
The second Fantastic Beasts movie may have been a generally disappointing sequel, but it only got truly, unapologetically offensive with its wildly unnecessary last-minute reveal.
In the final scene, the villainous Gellert Grindelwald (Johnny Depp) tells his troubled cohort Credence Barebone (Ezra Miller) of his true identity: he is actually none other than Aurelius Dumbledore, the brother of Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law).
As a resolution to the mystery of Credence's real lineage, it was far from the ingenious jaw-dropper the filmmakers clearly thought it to be.
Beyond running counter to existing lore about Dumbledore's family line by effectively ret-conning another sibling out of nowhere, it felt like a lazy, desperate attempt to get fans back for the currently-shooting third film.
Blockbuster franchises are absolutely obsessed with shoehorning these contrived, incestuous links between characters rather than simply creating new standalone ones, and it's absolute maddening.
If you had the pleasure of watching this thing in a packed cinema on opening night - remember that? - you'll doubtless recall the chorus of exasperated sighs when the final twist dropped with all the pomp of a wet fart.
