10 Movies That Shockingly Destroyed Justice League At The Box Office

Box Office: $710.6 million

Considering how well-reviewed Andy Serkis' new Planet of the Apes trilogy is, it perhaps shouldn't be that surprising to see 2014's second entry, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, cross the $700 million mark.

It seems like more of a peculiar fluke, however, when you look at the box office for its predecessor Rise of the Planet of the Apes and its recent sequel, War for the Planet of the Apes.

Rise pulled in a solid $481.8 million and War grossed slightly more with $490.7 million, so what was it that made Dawn so much more successful?

Perhaps it can be explained by the general audience response to the marketing for Rise and War, the former putting a lot of people off due to the perception it was just another dud reboot, and the latter seeming "too depressing" for younger audiences.

Dawn wasn't exactly a hopeful picnic, but it marketed itself well as an action-packed spectacle featuring apes on horseback. Apparently Justice League couldn't even hope to compete with that.
