6. Observe And Report Is Not A Judd Apatow-Style Comedy

In 2009, just three months after Paul Blart: Mall Cop had inexplicably earned $183.3m at the box office and with Judd Apatow's brand of comedy at the peak of its popularity, Seth Rogen starred in the vaguely-similar Observe and Report.

With Rogen in the lead and comedy stalwarts Anna Faris, Aziz Ansari, Patton Oswalt and Danny McBride lending support, it seemed like another cut-and-paste entry in the 'lovable loser gets the girl and betters himself in the process' sub-genre.

Or at least, that's what the trailers would have you believe with their reliance on quippy banter and Rogen's improv-heavy style.

In reality, Observe and Report was much darker than the average studio comedy and Rogen's character was a lot closer to Travis Bickle than Paul Blart. Fans of the actor's usually-genial output must have been shocked to discover that he wasn't playing his usual schlubby stoner, but a bi-polar drug-addled psycho who indulges in a more-than-questionable sex scene with Anna Faris' character.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
