10 Movies That Spent Decades In Development Hell

7. Gemini Man

It still seems hard to believe that Gemini Man is actually being made, given that the project has been in development in some form of another for over twenty years. With Ang Lee directing Will Smith in the lead role(s), the movie seems poised to be one of next year's blockbuster hits.

The plot, that an aging assassin is being targeted by a cloned version of his younger self, is a phenomenal high-concept, and recent blockbusters have shown that de-aging technology may finally be at the stage where it can convince over an entire film and avoid disappearing into the Uncanny Valley.

Jerry Bruckheimer has remained onboard as producer throughout the entire development process, which is impressive given that Tony Scott was attached as far back as 1997 and was reportedly eying the likes of Clint Eastwood and Mel Gibson to star.

Gemini Man just seemed like one of those projects that would rear its head every few years, reminding people that it existed, before quietly fading away into the background once again and would never actually get made.

That seemed to be the case right up until 2016, when Skydance Media took the project off Disney's hands and only went ahead and got the bloody thing before cameras just over a year later. If Lee and Smith can live up to the undoubted potential of the premise, then the two-decade wait for Gemini Man could result in something truly special.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
