For the longest time, it seemed as though all hope of Hugo Weaving returning to the MCU as the formidable Red Skull had been lost. This was largely down to the fact that Weaving himself wasn't overly keen on reprising the role.

In fact, they were so taken aback by the character's re-emergence that many completely missed the fact that Red Skull was actually being played by another actor altogether - albeit one who absolutely nailed Weaving's unmistakable delivery as the Hydra man.
Marvel Studios had in fact drafted in The Walking Dead's Ross Marquad and made him look almost identical to Weaving's Red Skull for both Infinity War and Endgame.
