10 Movies That Used Great Songs To Trick You Into Watching Them

1. Danny Collins

Imagine if you were a singer at the wrong end of a career yet to take off. Then one day you found a long-lost letter from John Lennon, written to support you in your younger years as a vocal flinger of folk. That's what happened to Steve Tilston. Rather than mope about how he'd missed out on the chance for a chinwag with the Scouse songmaster, he used his story as the basis for new release Danny Collins. Unfortunately "Steve Tilston" doesn't look so great outside a cinema, so Al Pacino signed on as leathery lothario Collins. The Jagger-type smasher of speakers gets a different perspective on his decadent existence when he uncovers a note from the bespectacled Beatle. Cue lots of impeccably-performed soul searching, which involves hooking up with Annette Bening. Not bad going for a start! Though audiences might be tempted by Pacino's presence, the idea of him getting musical isn't too high on the scale of excitement. The life's work of Lennon, which peppers the film, should fill any gaps in expectation admirably. Would quite so many bums be meeting seats had the spirit of the peace-loving piano player not left a quality imprint on the narrative? Doubtful! The fundamental things really do apply, as time goes by. Do you agree with this list? Are there other choices you feel have been left out? Be sure to let us know in the comments section!
