10 Movies That Wasted Brilliant Concepts

1. The Star Wars Prequel Trilogy (1999-2005)

The Star Wars Prequel Trilogy may be the obvious pick for a wasted concept piece such as this, but more often than not the obvious pick is obvious for a reason. In the case of these three movies, its reputation as a tragic waste of potential is more than deserved.

With awful performances (save Ewan McGregor, who single-handily keeps everything bearable), shocking CGI, heavy melodrama, and convoluted worldbuilding that tries too hard to link itself to the epic Star Wars originals, The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith all fall unbelievably flat as a whole.

They each have their merits, but none of them feature the necessary character development or hard-hitting drama that was needed to sell Anakin Skywalker's fall to the Dark Side. Instead, they're melodramatic and often rushed, hence why they're remembered today for all the things they get wrong rather than what they get right.
