10 Movies That Wasted Brilliant Concepts

4. Suicide Squad (2016)

In Time
Warner Bros.

An adaptation of the iconic DC comic storyline, Suicide Squad follows a gaggle of supervillains including Harley Quinn, Deadshot, and Captain Boomerang as they're recruited to secretly save the world for reduced jail time. What could possibly go wrong?

As it turns out, everything. Given mere weeks to bring a complete script to the table, David Ayer and Warner Bros constantly butted heads during production, and the friction in their different creative opinions shows throughout the film, what with its tonally jarring story, bland action, and depressingly dull visuals.

Spending a worryingly long time teeing up various spin-offs and sequels by shoe-horning Joker and Batman into the story, Suicide Squad watches like an uninspired action flick, thus failing to dig into the sheer ridiculousness of its fun premise. At least James Gunn understood the assignment when he rebooted it.
