Speaking of X-Men outings that may as well have come with an opening credit line of "please forgive us for that other thing we did", Ryan Reynolds' second swing of the swords as the Merc with a Mouth in 2016 finally let loose a version of the character both the actor and Deadpool die-hards all over the planet had been hoping to see seven years earlier.

What eventually wise-cracked onto the X-scene during Origins: Wolverine, however, was about as far from the Wade Wilson on the page as fans felt you could possibly get. And it came as little surprise when the 2009 Wolverine solo flick eventually came under serious fire for its usage of the quick-witted, fourth-wall-breaker.

But if finally releasing a depiction of the character Reynolds and Wilson's passionate fanbase could be truly proud of later down the road wasn't enough of a Fox apology to the fans for the fumbling of Deadpool a few years earlier, the sequel's time-travelling end credits sequence likely did the trick.

And as it goes, Wade's head-shotting of his former Weapon XI self also came equipped with a now epic piece of foreshadowing for Hugh Jackman's eventual return as Wolverine in Deadpool 3, too. What a world.
