10 Movies That Were Designed To Mess With Your Head

8. Triangle

Mulholland Drive
Icon Entertainment

Like a lot of the films on this list, Triangle is about time loops and body duplication. It asks what would happen if there were multiple ‘yous’. Would you attack them on instinct, try to converse with them and co-exist, or run and hide?

Jess and her friends are forced to answer that very question, when their boat is overturned in the middle of the ocean during a storm. Stranded with only one means of escape, they board a passing deserted ocean liner, whereupon they begin to be stalked and murdered by their own time-loop doubles. A seemingly endless cycle comes into effect, and each attempt to break the chain seems to result in further complications.

What makes Triangle so interesting is that it at first seems like a run-of-the-mill horror movie about a scary boat. You really have no idea what you’re getting yourself in for once the reality-warping stuff starts to take place, and an what would be an otherwise humdrum slasher movie turns into something much smarter.
