10 Movies That Were Saved By One Genius Tweak
9. Frank Darabont Wanted To Cut Test Audiences' Favourite Scene - The Shawshank Redemption
And in another case of test audiences forcing the team behind a movie to slightly alter the original plan, there was once a time when what many class as their favourite moment in the legendary Shawshank Redemption actually didn't make it into the feature's final cut.
This was down to the fact that Frank Darabont didn't feel there was any real need to include the ending scene that saw Red and Andy met up on a beach, with this reuniting already being hinted at during the director's preferred ending which faded to black after the former hopped on a bus to Zihuatanejo as he made his way to the latter's location.
But after being convinced by producer Liz Glotzer to keep in the final scene that saw the pair reunite on the sand, the fact that test audiences claimed this was their favourite moment of the entire classic feature soon led to the director having no choice but to keep in what he once claimed was a "commercial, sappy" conclusion.
And while this brief scene didn't change much about the already stellar 142-minutes that preceded it, it's hard to imagine feeling quite the same warmth in your belly without this touching final beat of closure.
