5. Space Jam - 1996
This movie you will see on similar lists Im sure. But it deserves to be on every list of this nature that you can find. Bringing in the classy Looney Toons for an all-out maniac-fest of celebrity cameos and not-really passable story lines, Space Jam Im sure has burned a cigarette hole in the minds of many. There were blurs of color and sound mixed in with cartoon violence that was unique to Bugs and Daffy. And aliens, never forget aliens. So what kid was going to dislike this movie as they bounced around to the snazzy soundtrack that was created just for a few more bucks? And mom and dad can laugh at the cast interacting with big names of sports and Hollywood from their generation. Nothing could go wrong. Except for Space Jam. Space Jam went wrong. Older now, I can see exactly who and how the Looney Toons were being geared to appeal to a new, younger audience. But for many, those many being fans of Looney Toons for decades, there was no excuse for one of the few films on this list that was actually horrible in hindsight, even if you were a kid. When I was a child Space Jam had a lot going for it. But did it really think that a sports star could hold his own in a film? Thats why it is loaded with cameos. Watching this film recently I barely could make it through the first act. Cheesier than cheesy. Its difficult to even say this film was made for children. It missed the mark on almost every regard. Making up its script full of slaps, bangs, and cheap laughs, wrapped around misplaced pop-culture references, the film is hardly making it off the ground. Not to mention the same is happening with its animation. Who Framed Roger Rabbit would laugh in a taunting manner almost a decade before at Space Jams quality. More like a straight-to-DVD film, Space Jam should have just stayed in my childhood and let me live in ignorance.
