8. Bridge To Terabithia (2007)
Bridge To Terabithia sounds like a title somebody might've thought of on the spot having been forced at gunpoint to conjure up "a name that sounds really, really fantasy." This movie actually started life a young adult novel, though, and unless you'd read it before you saw the movie, you probably got the impression from all the marketing that
Bridge was going work along the same lines as a Narnia flick. Kids go into magical world; kids face off against hordes of CG creatures; kids go back to their own world. If you
were familiar with the book, you might have found yourself feeling incredibly nervous about what Hollywood might've done to a surprisingly touching, deep and emotional novel - one that really has far less to do with CG creatures than you'd expect. The fact that, on this rare occassion, Hollywood did justice to a novel of this sort and didn't turn it into a shallow and misjudged imitation, was genuinely surprising. I won't spoil the story in this case, but don't let what you think this movie is about prevent you from checking it out. It's
sad.
