4. The Perks of Being a Wallflower
Here's another film that deals with rather tragic subject matter but still comes across as fun and realistic. The three main characters Sam, Charlie and Patrick are all high schoolers who are just trying to fit in with the world around them. This not only gives the film a sense of friendship but also helps the audience to relate naturally to the events they are seeing whether they are in high school or not. The themes of trying to find your place in life and be the best person that you can be are timeless. The Perks of Being a Wallflower never lets the very real issues faced by the characters get in the way of telling a heartwarming story or become too over dramatic. It's very easy for a movie based in high school to become annoying and vapid which is why it is so refreshing to see one that takes its characters seriously and treats them with respect.
