8. Ultraviolet (2006)
Kurt Wimmers 2006 film Ultraviolet is best remembered for Milla Jovovich fighting numerous bad guys in tight leather outfits and having the ability to change her hair color at will. The film was set in the future, and the plot involved something about a child being the key to curing some virus that affected half the population, or something like that. Im not really sure, because the plot of the film was complicated, and the frenetic pace and nonsensical editing made it virtually impossible to follow. The action set pieces were well choreographed and highly stylized, which wouldve been memorable had the whole movie been coherent. The future sets were fairly well done and the visuals were amazing, unfortunately its worth has just been relegated to helping promote the sharpness of blu-ray when it was first coming about with its vibrant color palette. Rumor has it that the original cut of the film was much longer and more story heavy, but due to the ever persistent executive meddling, the film was edited heavily, resulting in a nonsensical actioner with a sexy female protagonist. Had this gone to series, the story would have been much more fleshed out. The whole plot would have made much more sense and Kurt Wimmer could have expanded on his vision of a virus ridden post apocalyptic future. The potential for a solid TV show was all laid out. There are plenty of plots to explore, such as the source of the virus, and the story arc of saving the young boy could have spanned all of season 1. Of course the action would not be the focus if this was a TV series, but that would no doubt be a plus for Violet and her futuristic adventures. The show would have comfortably made its home on Syfy, and its production could have been done with the same technology that made Sanctuary such a budget conscious success. It may not have boasted the star power of Milla Jovovich, but the final film did not give her much to work with anyways.
