8. Pirates Of The Caribbean: At World's End Removed Feng In China

Disney's long-running Pirates of the Caribbean franchise has long had a rocky reception in China with its second instalment, Dead Man's Chest, being totally banned for including scenes of cannibalism and ghosts.

However, after the casting of hugely popular Hong Kong actor Chow Yun-fat as Asian pirate lord Sao Feng, the series' third instalment looked certain to be a hit with Chinese audiences.

This optimism proved to be short-lived when Chinese censors insisted that Disney make enormous cuts for the film to be released at all. These cuts involved removing almost all scenes that featured Feng.

Although no official reason was given, it was allegedly due to Feng's appearance being too close to Chinese stereotypes and the insinuation that Singapore was well-known hub for piracy.

Unsurprisingly, following the removal of one of the film's main characters, the resulting edit was roundly criticised for being almost impossible to follow.
