10 Movies Way Better Than They Have Any Right To Be

7. EuroTrip

Top Gun Maverick Tom Cruise
DreamWorks

A US teen comedy made in the American Pie mould and riding in on that series' coattails, EuroTrip stars three male leads (Jacob Pitts, Scott Mechlowicz and Travis Wester) with no notable credits to their names, plus Dawn from Buffy (Michelle Trachtenberg), and was directed by a man (Jeff Schaffer) best known for helping write Mike Myers' Cat In The Hat (2003). It has all the ingredients of a perfect disaster.

But, while in theory EuroTrip should have been consigned to the bargain bin, it instead rises above its basic facts on all fronts with its own distinct take on the genre, focused less on endorsing the objectification of women and more on how many absurd gags it can cram into 90 minutes.

Perplexingly, the vast majority of the film was shot on location in a Prague barely dressed to look like the landmarks of Europe and the US, but this just adds to its otherworldly charm. The film's characters don't exist in the kind of semi-real dimension of American Pie, but one entirely their own.

Throw in a crazy line-up of cameos, including Fred Armisen as an Italian pervert, Vinnie Jones as a football hooligan and Matt Damon as a metalhead singing the film's breakaway hit, Scotty Doesn't Know, and we're onto a winner.
