10 Movies Where It Didn't Matter That The Hero Lost

4. Kong - Godzilla Vs Kong

In the Mouth of Madness Ending
Warner Bros.

Whenever there is a clash of two cinematic titans, potential audiences usually only care about one thing - who will win? It happened when Freddy fought Jason, with Team Cap vs Team Iron Man, and most recently with Godzilla and Kong.

When the latter two reignited an ancient war in the aptly titled Godzilla Vs Kong, there was one clear winner. Though both top of their respective food chains, Kong was absolutely no match for Godzilla, and only survived their clash because the King of Monsters allowed him to.

However, in spite of suffering such a heavy and comprehensive defeat, it ultimately didn't matter. Flying in the face of the movie's title, it wasn't about Godzilla and Kong fighting each other, but rather the beginning of a mutual respect between them.

For the big finale of the piece, the two titular beasts were forced to team up together to take on Mechagodzilla. They worked together, they defeated the mechanical monster, and earned each other's respect before heading back to their own domains. Godzilla went back under the sea, Kong to Hollow Earth, living in harmony as though they had never fought in the first place.
